Choosing 25 albums from the past year proved to be a difficult task. 2011 produced a whole whack load of great music and it was tough to come up with and order the list below. Other than the albums below, there were a bunch that I couldn’t fit in my top 25. Those albums include Lykke Li Wounded Rhymes, Adele 21, Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues and The War on Drugs Slave Ambient.

2011 proved to be another fantastic year for Canadian music. Leading the way was Drake with his second album Take Care. Other Canadians with good albums this year include City And Colour with Little Hell, Austra with her debut Feel It Break and Arkells with Michigan Left.

Hope you enjoy these albums as much as I did and as always if there was an album you really liked that I didn’t mention, please let me know!

So far 2011 has produced a number of amazing albums. White Lies’ ‘Ritual’, Iron & Wine‘s ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’ and The Decemberists’ ‘The King Is Dead’ are just a few to be named and there are plenty of more great albums to come in this upcoming year.

The Strokes, Foo Fighters and Glasvegas are all set to release their upcoming albums in the spring and are set to release new singles. Glasvegas has already released one single and have just released a second titled ‘Euphoria, Take My Hand‘. The Strokes are ready to release their lead single ‘Under Cover of Darkness‘ on Wednesday but have leaked a 30 second clip and it sounds amazing! This is definitely an album that everyone is looking forward to.

We are only 18 days into 2011 and we have already been blessed with an amazing album. Yup White Lies‘ Ritual was released today and has been on a constant repeat all day for me. When they released their lead single ‘Bigger Than Us’ a few months ago it was a sign that this was going to be an awesome record. However what I didn’t expect was how much better this album is than I had originally anticipated it would be.

This 10 track album may seem short but the quality of the music produced makes up for the shorter album. Right from the start of ‘Is Love’, the first track, you can hear that this album was worth the wait from their debut album back in 2009. Every track from the start an amazing listen and shows how talented they guys really are.

With the release of their second album just days away, the White Lies posted a sampler to ‘Ritual’. This 10min interactive video allows you to listen to about a minute of each track off ‘Ritual’, due out January 17th. If their single Bigger Than Us is any indication this album is going to be great!

Give each of the sample tracks a listen and get prepared for an amazing album in the coming days. Upon release check back here as I plan on writing a review of the album. Also I’ll be seeing White Lies at the end of the month so check back at that time for a full review. Until then, enjoy this!!

With another year coming to an end it closes what was a good year in music. A number of artists hit it big in 2009 including Kings Of Leon (finally after three successful albums in the UK), Lady Gaga & Taylor Swift. 2009 also saw a bunch of indie artists rise to the foreground of the indie music scene. The UK’s La Roux, The XX & The Big Pink are just a few of the more successful bands that cracked the new artist category in 2009 (and I’m sure there are a bunch more!)
