Preview The Strokes Upcoming Album ‘Angles’

February 28th, 2011

We are about three weeks away from the release of the brand new album from New York rockers The Strokes. ‘Angles’ is the fourth album from the guys but the first since 2006. Since the start of the year we have slowly seen tiny bits of new Strokes material which was followed by the lead single ‘Under Cover of Darkness’. Following the release of the single, The Strokes have posted a few small videos of the making of their new album (videos are posted at the end of this post).

Watching those videos and hearing some of the new material this early before the album is released is a blessing considering we’ve all waited so long for new Strokes songs. Then came today.

Dreamers Cover ‘Black and Yellow’

February 13th, 2011

Over the past few months Wiz Khalifa‘s ‘Black and Yellow’ has exploded in popularity and has been covered, remixed and sampled to extraordinary lengths. Not only has Dreamers come up with a hardcore/metal cover or a rap song they actually have made ‘Black and Yellow’ that much more listenable & enjoyable.

The keyboard intro mixed in the screaming fits so well with this track that I have it constantly open in my browser. If you enjoy the original and like metal/hardcore give this cover a listen and I’m guaranteeing you that you’ll enjoy it. Check it out below and let me know what you think.

Music Monday Roundup – The Strokes, Foo Fighters & Glasvegas

February 7th, 2011

So far 2011 has produced a number of amazing albums. White Lies’ ‘Ritual’, Iron & Wine‘s ‘Kiss Each Other Clean’ and The Decemberists’ ‘The King Is Dead’ are just a few to be named and there are plenty of more great albums to come in this upcoming year.

The Strokes, Foo Fighters and Glasvegas are all set to release their upcoming albums in the spring and are set to release new singles. Glasvegas has already released one single and have just released a second titled ‘Euphoria, Take My Hand‘. The Strokes are ready to release their lead single ‘Under Cover of Darkness‘ on Wednesday but have leaked a 30 second clip and it sounds amazing! This is definitely an album that everyone is looking forward to.

White Lies ‘Ritual’ Album Review

January 18th, 2011

We are only 18 days into 2011 and we have already been blessed with an amazing album. Yup White LiesRitual was released today and has been on a constant repeat all day for me. When they released their lead single ‘Bigger Than Us’ a few months ago it was a sign that this was going to be an awesome record. However what I didn’t expect was how much better this album is than I had originally anticipated it would be.

This 10 track album may seem short but the quality of the music produced makes up for the shorter album. Right from the start of ‘Is Love’, the first track, you can hear that this album was worth the wait from their debut album back in 2009. Every track from the start an amazing listen and shows how talented they guys really are.

Music Monday – Glasvegas, Foo Fightes & Crystal Castles f. Robert Smith

January 17th, 2011

Today was an absolute great day for stumbling upon new music. Last week I blogged about Glasvegas naming their new album and this past weekend they dropped their new single ‘The World Is Yours’. If this single is any indication of how their new will sound like then we are all in for an amazing treat. This single has all of the previous Glasvegas sound with some new touches that are marvelous. Listen to the full track below.

Next up is the Foo Fighters. About two weeks ago the guys teased fans with a ten second clip of front-man Dave Grohl screaming at the top of his lungs. In a recent interview Mr. Grohl revealed that this upcoming album will be their heaviest album to date and includes no acoustic guitar. That first teaser clip definitely proved to us that he wasn’t joking around and now they have released another teaser clip, this time its roughly 30 seconds. In this teaser it’s clear that they stuck with their sound but put in a little more aggression into, which makes for an awesome tune! This is definitely an album/track/concert that I am looking forward to in 2011. Listen to it here.

And lastly for this Monday evening is Toronto’s own Crystal Castles. This electronic duo have produced two amazing albums (both of which have been on my top album lists) and have grown in popularity in recent years. Today I came across a song from their latest album that is featuring The Cure’s Robert Smith. Their single ‘Not In Love’ is amazing on its own but when I heard the version with Robert Smith singing I was blown away. Alice Glass has an amazing voice and all but with Robert Smith singing those lyrics the song gets even better than the original! Have a listen blow and let me know your thoughts. Happy Music Monday!!

New Season of Skins Coming Your Way

January 13th, 2011

UK series Skins has been a popular series for a while now and because of its huge success MTV has picked it up and will be airing it this month. But while North Americans get the first season of the US version of Skins, everyone else who has watched the British series gets an all new cast for the fifth season.

Skins follows a bunch of teenage friends through school and all the troubles teens get into. The best part of this series is that they don’t shy away from extremely controversial topics. Drugs, sex, violence and much more are all discussed and brought to the fore front of television.

Beady Eye Premiere The Roller Video

January 11th, 2011

Liam Gallagher & his new band Beady Eye have supplied us beloved music fans with an amazing start to 2011. Only four days ago I blogged about them releasing their new single ‘The Roller‘ and here I am today telling you about their new video for ‘The Roller’. These guys are a non stop working machine ready to conquer the music world one week at a time.

It’s no secret that Liam is a huge Beatles fan and it shows in this video and song. He also hasn’t lost his touch as being one of the best frontman in music history. In his classic Oasis pose, Liam and his bandmates perform inside of what looks like it should belong in a circus as a girl on a bike rides around in circles above them. It’s a pretty neat video for an amazing track! Their album Different Gear, Still Speeding is going to be huge in 2011 and I personally cannot wait for this. Hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.
