New Mastodon Album Is Good!

April 29th, 2009

So it’s been about a month now since the release of Mastodon’s latest album ‘Crack The Skye’ and I’ve just got around to listening to it now. After reading a few reviews of the new album I decided to get it. Prior to listening to the album I had a few thoughts of how it would sound like: really heavy, lots screaming and a bunch of noise. But after giving it a good listen yesterday I was totally wrong on all fronts. Listening to this album is like listening to Iron Maiden mashed with Rush mashed with new age heavy metal.

Throughout the album these guys have crazy guitar solos and great vocals. There are a few tracks that include some screaming but it’s a type of screaming that you can actually listen to. Although the album only has 7 tracks the 10+ minute tracks make up for not having more tracks.

Overall the album is a really good listen if you want to hear some great vocals mixed with awesome guitar solos. Listening to this album has made me appreciate this type of metal. I will definitely get the rest of Mastodon’s catalog and see how their earlier stuff compares to this new album.

Kings Of Leon Concert Review

Last night Kings Of Leon ripped the roof off the ACC with an amazing show. The sold out ACC is a huge jump for the boys from Tennessee who have previously played the Kool Haus. With the success of their latest album ‘Only By The Night’ it was no surprise to me that they would sell out the ACC, it was only a matter of time.

The minute that the Followill brothers and cousin stepped foot on stage, everyone in the ACC were on their feet cheering. This was probably the loudest show I’ve ever been to at the ACC (which also includes Leaf & Raptor games).

Glasvegas @ The Mod Club

April 5th, 2009

The much-hyped Glasvegas made their first appearance in Toronto on Friday night to a sold out crowd at The Mod Club. This show apparently sold out in 30 minutes and they showed us why. Their performance Friday night left everyone wanting more.

They opened up with their hit single Geraldine which got to crowd into from the minute they started the song. From then the energy level only got higher as the band got into an amazing stride playing track after track. Following the social worker song, Geraldine, they played Lonesome Swan, It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry, Polmont On My Mind and one of my favourite tracks Fuck You It’s Over.
